The business community globally, in Canada, Ontario and York Region is being impacted by COVID-19.  In response, both the Canadian and the Ontario Governments have announced support for the business community during this pandemic. If you’re unsure of what government program are available to assist you during the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve organized some resources based on comments we’ve been hearing from the local business community. Alternatively, below the webinar event calendar you will find all of the programs known to us, organized by government-level or industry organizations.

BUSINESS REOPENING GUIDELINES AND ADVICE

York Region is continuing to follow the provincial lead with respect to reopening businesses and public spaces. The business reopening guidance and advice provided within this section from various government levels and third-party industry organizations is provided as a courtesy to assist the business community within York Region. It is the responsibility of each business that is reopening to ensure they are following the guidelines of the Ontario Government to protect the health and safety of their employees and customers.

COVID-19 BUSINESS RESOURCES AND PROGRAMS LINKS

  • Find COVID-19 Federal Supports For You And Your Business - Self-assessment tool to help you find supports for your business
  • COVID-19 Resources for Canadian Businesses - Main page for the federal government's COVID-19 supports, programs and services.
  • Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) - If you have stopped working because of COVID-19, the CERB may provide you with temporary income support. The CERB provides $500 a week for up to 16 weeks.
  • Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) - As a Canadian employer whose business has been affected by COVID-19, you may be eligible for a subsidy of 75% of employee wages for up to 12 weeks, retroactive from March 15, 2020, to August 29, 2020.
  • Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) - The CEBA will provide interest-free loans of up to $40,000 to small businesses and not-for-profits, to help cover their operating costs during a period where their revenues have been temporarily reduced. UPDATE: This program will be expanded to include those with payroll of less than $20,000. More information will be available in the coming days.
  • Business Credit Availability Program (BCAP) - The Government of Canada has introduced the BCAP to help Canadian businesses obtain financing during the current period of significant uncertainty.
  • Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) - The program will seek to provide loans, including forgivable loans, to commercial property owners who in turn will lower or forgo the rent of small businesses for the months of April (retroactive), May, and June. The CECRA for small businesses application portal will be available May 25, 2020
  • Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF) - Delivered by regional development agencies across the country, this fund provides interest-free loans to help support fixed operating costs of SMEs, where business revenues have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

YORK REGION BUSINESS IMPACT AND RECOVERY SURVEY

The Regional Municipality of York, in partnership with local municipalities, the York Region Business Coalition of Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade, and the Workforce Planning Board of York Region have partnered to support the local business community as the economy reopens and starts recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

By completing this short survey you will help these organizations continue providing relevant information to York Region’s business community, develop programs/services to support local business recovery, and advocate for provincial and federal resources. This survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete, and includes 16 questions. Your individual answers will be kept confidential and only aggregated information will be used.

THE YORK REGION BUSINESS COMMUNITY MOBILIZES TO SUPPORT COVID-19 RESPONSE

The Government of Canada, the National Research Council of Canada, and the Government of Ontario are looking for businesses that can support the COVID-19 response. This can be a range of things including adapting your business to manufacture urgently-needed ventilators and personal protective equipment (PPE), to providing innovative solutions and research to assist frontline responders and the government currently dealing directly with the COVID-19 crisis.
